Best Point Guards Of All Time

The NBA has had a history of all-time great players. There will always be only 10 players on the court at a time, and there were certain players that stood out through the rest of the bunch. One of the most important positions on the basketball floor these days is a point guard.

Guard play is very important because they are usually the captain of their respective basketball team. NBA free picks are usually given on a night-to-night basis. Who were some of the greatest point guards in NBA History?

Ervin Magic Johnson, Los Angeles Lakers

When you think of the greatest point guards in NBA history, Johnson is the first name that comes to mind on this list. He won several NBA Championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, who are one of the most iconic franchises in the entire NBA. He played for this franchise from 1979-1991 and also from 1995-1996.

Some of the things he accomplished was winning finals MVP three times throughout his NBA career. Throughout his NBA career, Magic Johnson averaged 19.5 PPG, 7.2 RPG, and 11.5 APG, along with shooting 52.0% from the field.

He is probably the greatest point guard in NBA history, with all he accomplished throughout his illustrious NBA career. Magic Johnson was named to the All-Star Game 12 times and is also a Hall of Famer. 

Oscar Robertson

Oscar Robertson played on two NBA teams throughout his career. He played for the Cincinnati Royals from 1960-1970 and also the Milwaukee Bucks from 1970-1974. Robertson was the only player in NBA history to score 100 points in a single basketball game, and that record will most likely never be broken ever again, but hey, you never know.

He won the NBA title with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1971. Robertson also won an MVP during the 1963-1964 NBA regular season. Throughout his NBA career, he averaged 25.7 PPG, 7.5 RPG, and 9.5 APG and also shot 48.5% from the field.

Oscar Robertson was also a 12-time NBA All-Star and is also in the NBA Hall of Fame. He was always known for triple-doubles throughout his NBA Career.

John Stockton

John Stockton played for the Utah Jazz throughout his NBA career from 1984-2003. Stockton never won an NBA championship with Utah because he ran into Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls twice throughout his NBA career. John Stockton is probably the most iconic player in Utah’s history, and this doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Stockton was an excellent defender throughout his NBA career and made the all-defensive team five times throughout his NBA career. Stockton is also in the NBA Hall of Fame.

Throughout his NBA career, he averaged 13.1 PPG, 2.7 RPG, and 10.5 APG and also shot 38.4% from three, which is very good. Stockton was named an NBA All-Star 10 times and is also one of those point guards throughout his NBA career that was also kind of underappreciated.

John Stockton always made other players around him better, and it also helped when he had Karl Malone as one of his teammates during his NBA career. 

Steve Nash

Steve Nash played on three NBA teams throughout his NBA career. Nash played for the Phoenix Suns from 1996-1998 and also from 2004-2012, the Dallas Mavericks from 1998-2004, and the Los Angeles Lakers from 2012-2015. He was a back-to-back MVP from 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. Steve Nash always had great teams with the Phoenix Suns during his MVP days, but they failed to win an NBA Championship.

Steve Nash was an elite playmaker throughout his NBA career. During it, he averaged 14.3 PPG, 3.0 RPG, and 8.5 APG. Nash also shot 42.8% from downtown, which is amazing from three-point land. That means he was almost automatic from downtown. 

Some of the other great point guards of all time include Chris Paul (current NBA player for the Phoenix Suns), Isaiah Thomas (retired NBA Hall of Famer for the Detroit Pistons), and Steph Curry (current NBA player for the Golden State Warriors).
