YouTube now offers hundreds of free movies and TV shows – you need to know that.
The American video-sharing company said in a blog post on Wednesday that it is expanding its library of free content.
“More and more people are choosing to experience YouTube with friends and family on the big screen,” the company wrote on its blog.
“And now, for the first time, US viewers can watch full seasons of TV shows on YouTube with ads for free,” they added.
YouTube’s move is likely an attempt to compete with streaming giants like Netflix, which revealed earlier this year that they were dropping hundreds of new original content.
According to TechRadar, there are currently 360 movies and 100 shows available for free streaming with ads on YouTube.
Hit films from Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros make the list.
Some popular titles are Legally Blond, Runaway Bride, and Gone in Sixty Seconds.
If you’re into series, you can also stream hit shows like Hell’s Kitchen, Scream Queens, Heartland, and Unsolved Mysteries.
YouTube noted in its press release that the platform “reached over 135 million people on connected TVs in the United States” last year.
According to TechRadar, this number is a strong indication that YouTube’s free content is being well received by the community as a whole.
How to get to the library
YouTube users can access the free content on any device, including iPads, smart TVs, and smartphones.
First you need to go to the dropdown menu on the left side of the YouTube home page.
Next, scroll down to Subscriptions and tap Movies & Shows.
From there, click on the “Free to watch” section and the full library should then appear.
If users want an ad-free experience, the option to rent or buy their favorite titles will still be available.
