You’re using your TV WRONG – everyone should change these settings today

FANCY TVs are loud, but you’re not alone if you feel like you’re trying to hear what’s being said.

With all the sound effects to liven things up, words can often get lost in the mist.

The muffled dialogue has been a complaint about several shows over the years, including Happy Valley and the BBC’s 2014 3-part drama Jamaica Inn.

Thankfully, there are ways you can improve your own sound quality from the comfort of your sofa.

So, why not try with these settings and see if it makes the conversations in your favorite TV shows and movies a little clearer?

Change TV sound settings

Your TV has a multitude of settings, including settings for sound and sound.

Since every TV is different, reaching it is also different, so you probably have a button that says Audio or AV on your remote.

Alternatively, tap the Menu button and look for something like Settings or Sound.

First, you can have a variety of modes on your screen – it’s worth changing these up according to what you’re looking at.

For example, it can say music, movies, sports or news.

You could try putting corresponding categories for what you’re watching, but since the news is so voice-focused, this is a good choice for anything where you’re having trouble hearing voices.

Next, if you see any slider options, you want to search for bass.

If the bass is too high, it creates a lot of additional boomy sound, which can certainly muffle the voice.

So consider tweaking this a bit.

How to adjust the soundbar

Soundbars definitely deliver superior sound overall, so you might consider buying one if you don’t already have one.

This is because our flat TVs these days don’t always handle sound very well, as they have been greatly scaled down.

That said, voice issues can persist even for soundbars, so look for ways to reduce the bass.

The subwoofer is another great hit when it comes to sound – great for explosions in huge war scenes, not so good for dialogue.

Depending on the subwoofer you have, this can be done on the remote, or it can be done on the back of the subwoofer – either way, turn it down and see.

Position your stereo speakers

If you have an AV or stereo speaker system, positioning is everything.

Move them away from walls and corners for better overall sound quality.

Similarly, if you’re merely using the TV for sound, the location is also important.

If it were pushed right into the wall, it wouldn’t allow the sound to travel around the room very well.
