Young Dolph, famous rapper originally from Memphis, dies aged 36

The rapper, whose real name is Adolph Robert Thornton, Jr., was allegedly buying cookies at Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies in Memphis when someone drove up to him and shot him.
“This shooting is yet another example of the senseless gun violence we are experiencing locally and nationally. Our hearts go out to the Thornton family and all those affected by it. this horrible act of violence,” Davis said.
According to Davis, no suspect information has been provided at this time.
“All of us at APA are shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic passing of our dear friend and client, Young Dolph,” said a representative from the management company. said in a statement to Variety. “The world has lost an icon, a great man and a beloved artist who passed away too soon for his family at this most difficult time.”
CNN has reached out to an APA representative for comment.
A Chicago native who grew up in Memphis, Young Dolph released his debut album, “King of Memphis” in 2016. He went on to have several hits, including “Blue Diamonds” and “RNB” with the starring Megan Thee Stallion. His fifth studio album, 2020, “Rich Slave,” peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200.
In 2017, he nearly died in a shooting in Hollywood. He was hospitalized for weeks after receiving three gunshot wounds.
He added that he is not “someone who lives in fear.”
Following news of his passing, fellow artists and fans paid tribute to Young Dolph.
“God bless Dolph, Chicago-born independent Memphis rapper. Loved by millions of ppl,” Chance the Rapper tweeted. “Always showing love every time I see him, this is a tragedy God bless the man of his family.”
“RIP for my friend Dolph. This broke my heart,” Gucci Mane wrote.
Young Dolph is survived by two children.
