SIR ALEX FERGUSON warned Cristiano Ronaldo ‘you won’t play every game’ when he signed the club legend in 2003.
But the iconic Manchester United boss, 79, was forced to move after Ronaldo, 36, received a passionate welcome from Reds fans as he came off the bench.
At the age of 18, Ronnie wowed supporters with a 30-minute guest appearance in the 4-0 win over Bolton.
And Sir Alex quickly found himself trapped, telling Ronaldo during negotiations that he would not be guaranteed regular minutes.
Fergie said to Inside view: “I always remember that when we discuss [about Ronaldo signing], I think what I want to impress his agent, namely [was that] he won’t play every game.
“But if he’s that good, I can’t stop him. You always play your best players.
“The opening game of the season, he was substituted. He came and he was absolutely amazing! Magnificent crowd, crowd favorite.
“So here we had a situation: Do I play him in the next game or do I put him back on the bench? That’s a big deal, that, you know. “
