One of the most useful skills you can have in the kitchen is knowing how to properly prepare vegetables.
As for red peppers, a recent online video taught viewers a simple way to remove the seeds with ease.
Some of us prepare peppers by cutting them in half and digging out the tiny seeds that live inside.
It’s a messy approach that leaves our fingers sticky and our cutting boards covered in ruins.
A TikToker, who comes across @AA10430, posted a video that proved a cleaner way to remove the seeds of these succulent vegetables.
In the clip, he uses a sharp knife to make 3 cuts around a red pepper.
The cuts are just deep enough for the knife to get in the middle of the vegetable – not the whole thing.
Then he used his hands to easily separate the pieces, and the beads only stuck to one of the three sides.
In one swift motion, he pulled the pepper off the flake and that was it: three parts clean pepper.
It’s a great hack to add to your list of kitchen cutting tips.
When it comes to slicing tomatoes, another chef used @AbbyInTheGalley give two methods that won’t make your tomatoes mushy and create a mushy mess.
Abby says the type of knife you use makes a difference.
“You will need a really sharp chef’s knife, like my great Kuma knife, or a serrated knife.
“The whole goal is not to crush the tomato.”
Step one is to core the tomato: “So, to get the tomato core, I would take a knife and make a circular cut around the core.”
While gripping the tip of the knife, Abby made a relatively shallow incision around the top stem of the tomato and pulled it out.
The chef then cuts the tomatoes in half lengthwise.
“Here’s the first way to seed a tomato: cut the tomato into even sheets,” says Abby, while slicing down the center of one of the tomato halves (vertically again).
“Then cut it one way, and then cut it the other way around, and it will be diced, small pieces.”
For the second method, Abby removed the tomato seeds.
“Cut the whole tomato into quarters. Then take your knife and simply run it along the base of the seed—or you can even pull it out with your fingers,” said the chopper, removing the soft center of the fruit.
“Then you will be left with a small tomato petal.
“Similar process: create slices one way, and then the other way around.”
These ways to cut tomatoes, like red peppers, you will cut the tomatoes clean and beautiful cubes.
