‘You miss the target’ – Usman fires back at Conor McGregor after the UFC star criticized him for taking his daughter to the fight

Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has hit back at Conor McGregor’s criticism of taking his daughter to his fights.

Footage of Samirah Usman crying after her father’s brutal KO loss to Leon Edwards last month went viral after the former pound-for-pound king was dethroned at UFC 278.

After McGregor saw the footage, he expressed his condolences to Samirah, 8, announcing that he would no longer have his own family at his fights.

But during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Usman said: “Conor had tweeted something and he slammed me for making her fight and this and that.

“And damn it! (Critics) don’t get it. They just think at a low level where they don’t understand, absolutely, I’ll bring them.

“Not only will my daughter see when daddy is victorious and daddy keeps beating everybody and daddy can put her in the best school or whatever she wants. no

“Because I’m in a weird place trying to teach her.

“She has a work ethic, but it’s like, ‘Eh, I don’t want to do that today,’ or ‘I don’t want to do gymnastics,’ or ‘I don’t want to do that this week.’

“And she doesn’t want to do it. ‘Oh, I don’t like it anymore. I want to stop.’

“And I’m trying to teach her the best I can without forcing her to do any of what it takes to work hard.

“My daughter has been going to the gym with me since she was six months old.

“So she understands that and is okay with that. That’s why she can see my fights.

“But I’m not going to bring her just because Daddy is victorious.”

Usman, 35, plans to bring Samirah to his trilogy fight with Edwards early next year.

He said, “I’ve just been blessed with the opportunity to show my daughter, ‘Look, you can fall down and see how you can get back up.’

“And to see people like Conor, who actually has kids, say something like that, it was like, ‘Man, you’re missing the point bro.’ You miss it very much.”

Usman’s series decision with Brit Edwards is set to take place in the UK early next year, although a date and location have not been finalized.

McGregor, meanwhile, is still recovering from the horrific broken leg he sustained in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier last July.

The Irishman is currently on track to return to the octagon sometime next year.
