The chaos that overshadowed last year’s Euro 2020 final meant that match was played behind closed doors, although children were allowed when accompanied by an adult.

And those in the stands weren’t afraid to voice their feelings full-time.

Some of the youngsters who excitedly took their seats 90 minutes earlier, hoping to see Gareth Southgate’s stars score at least once, were loudly booed when the tedious stalemate finally ended.

Not all of the 2,000 odd-numbered schoolchildren taunted the Three Lions from the field, but there were audible boos from the stands at Molineux.

Predictably, social media was quick to respond to the boos from the youngsters, and many found it downright hilarious.

One wrote: “Hahaha primary school kids just booed that performance in England.”

Another said: “When kids boo at the final whistle that says it all.”

A third user added: “Booed by a bunch of kids. New low for England…”

While a fourth pointed out: “You know it sucks when school kids boo all the time.”

The Three Lions largely dominated the action but were unable to avenge last year’s Euro 2020 final defeat by the Azzurri.

Mason Mount rattled the bar in the first half before Raheem Sterling somehow deflected Reece James’s pinpoint cross from four yards out, leaving the goal at his mercy.

Southgate and co are yet to add a win to their Nations League campaign after drawing against Italy and Germany following defeat in Hungary.

The Hungarians are the visitors of Molineux on Tuesday, although this time the stands will be packed.

And Southgate will be hoping his side aren’t booed by the 31,700 spectators as that would inevitably sting a lot more than a few taunts from elementary school kids.
