In the newly created role, the professional pillow tester will help support clients’ decision-making – by snoozing at work.

The successful applicant will receive £100 for each stopover in exchange for comments on the size and firmness of the hotel’s pillows.

They are also asked to give hotels including Luton Hoo, The Chester Grosvenor & Spa, The Chesterfield Mayfair and the Carnoustie Golf Hotel & Spa a star rating based solely on the pillows.

It comes after research found that 75 per cent of travelers say poor sleep can ruin their holiday.

Only 12 percent say they sleep well in hotel beds because of the pillows, while 59 percent admit they sleep better at home instead.

And 29 percent have taken to taking their own pillow from home on vacation.

It also found that 51 percent of the 2,000 adults surveyed would consider booking another hotel if they read a negative review about how someone had a bad night’s sleep at the hotel.

While nearly a third even asked a hotel concierge to change their pillows because they didn’t like them.

Sleep is so important for travelers on a long-distance trip that 40 percent would even check out of a hotel and look for another if the sleeping arrangements were not right.

The perfect amount of sleep on vacation is eight hours, according to 42 percent of OnePoll respondents, while 49 percent cited two pillows as their ideal amount of sleep.

Poor quality pillows also outweigh holidaymaker complaints such as overeating at the hotel buffet, thick blankets, early sunrise and the inability to switch off from work, with 23 percent blaming inappropriate pillows for a poor night’s sleep on holiday.

Hoo, which allows travelers to make an online offer for a better deal on hotel rooms, has developed the opportunity after two turbulent years in which many trips have been canceled to help them get a good night’s sleep when they get away .
