Xbox may SELECT PS5 players from these games after agreement with Activision

With the news that Microsoft bought Activision broke this week, the game franchise becoming a platform monopoly is a big worry for gamers.

Series like Call of Duty could be Xbox exclusives in the future, though industry expert Michael Pachter says Sony will resist to keep them on the PlayStation console.

Microsoft acquired Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax Media in late 2020.

In a blow to PS4 and PS5 console owners, they made it clear that new and upcoming titles from the studio will be Xbox exclusives.

The scary thing is that the same thing will happen with new and existing series from Activision Blizzard-owned developers.

Microsoft mentioned a few of the franchises included in the Activision Agreement in the original announcement.

If following the same strategy, PlayStation players can lose their favorite games.

Activision’s IP library is extensive, so let’s see what games this deal could affect:

  • Call of Duty
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Spyro
  • Sekiro
  • Tony Hawk
  • Diablo
  • Overwatch

Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 are immediate concerns; Diablo 4 has been announced for PC and consoles and won’t launch until 2023 at the earliest.

Just like Starfield, the rug can be pulled from underneath PlayStation players when the game turns into an Xbox exclusive.

Overwatch also already has a solid fan base, and it will be a bit annoying when it disappears from PS4 and PS5.

Sony released a statement following Microsoft’s announcement (via Bloomberg) speak:

“We hope that Microsoft will abide by the contractual agreements and continue to ensure that Activision’s games are diverse.”

It looks like the company may be preparing for a fight, as industry analyst Michael Pachter tells us.

The deal won’t be finalized until next year, so we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.
