Xbox fans think they know the release date for Microsoft’s next ‘Gen 10’ console after huge leak

THE next-generation Xbox could launch in less than five years, according to newly unsealed chat logs between executives.

Xbox maker Microsoft has reportedly expressed plans to launch the new console in 2028, according to conversations between gaming boss Phil Spencer and CEO Satya Nadella.

A number of documents and chat logs have been revealed as part of a recent court case with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The FTC sought to block Microsoft’s $69 billion purchase of Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard as the tech giant pushes into game publishing.

According to a leaked document, a 2028 rollout plan was hinted at at a meeting of more than a dozen senior Microsoft executives in May 2022.

This meeting was attended by CEO Satya Nadella, CFO Amy Hood and head of gaming Phil Spencer.

In separate chat transcripts, Anuj Gosali, vice president of immersive experiences, asked whether Microsoft would continue to provide device hardware standards to console developers.

“One of the things consoles have been really great at is giving developers a very clear platform goal, and [Game Development Kit] was really good at it,” he wrote.

“Is the plan for 2028 to maintain that? [illegible] “How to force a model or a Windows like flexible/skills-like model?”

Kevin Gammill, vice president of gaming ecosystems, responded: “We’ve already started this journey with Xbox One and Xbox One continued.”

“In the future, with the 10th generation, we have to be even more flexible, but also offer developers the opportunity to use unique hardware functions.”

The upcoming Xbox console, dubbed “Gen 10,” will look very different than its predecessors, according to other documents leaked as part of the litigation.
