His family has hired a private investigator to find Levi, although it has been reported that his bank card and phone have not been used since his disappearance.

But now it’s been reported that Levi may have racked up huge debts to Somali criminals as his partying lifestyle spiraled out of control.

An unnamed member of the private investigative team told La Vanguardia newspaper: “Davis came to Barcelona to flee from these criminals.

“He had adopted a hectic lifestyle and was in a very delicate situation. The truth is he was sure they were after him.

“In fact, he was convinced that they had once tried to poison him.”

The amount he owed was estimated at around €115,000 – which is a little less than £102,000.

The Somali mafia’s debt claims surfaced in Spain when it emerged that his family was urging Spanish police to investigate a possible drowning in Barcelona port.

Levi’s passport was found nearby and fears grew that he might have been lured into a trap after arranging to meet someone he met on social media.

It comes as his heartbroken mum Julie broke down in tears on Good Morning Britain as she recalled the last hug she gave her son before he left for Spain.

“There’s always that mother’s instinct,” she said.

“And right before he left, there was a message that, I don’t know, maybe upstairs that said to me, ‘Give him a hug because you just don’t know if it’s going to be your last.'”

Julie expressed her frustration at the lack of information about Levi.

“I had a lot of support from family and friends and of course the private investigators worked very hard and the Spanish police also played their part.

“But I think it was difficult that the information didn’t get through.

“There is of course the language barrier and you have to go through the British consulate beforehand and then the response with news updates is very slow, very slow.

“I know there is pressure from the UK consulate but in terms of updates and CCTV coverage it’s frustrating.

“We got information back saying that unfortunately it is too late because the Spanish police had to go to court to have papers signed so they could have access to the CCTV.

“When they got it, the entire video was deleted. It’s very frustrating.”

Good Morning Britain reported that private investigator Gavin Burrows told the program he feared Levi may have drowned in Barcelona harbour.

GMB said the man got into distress in the port area near a nearby cruise ship.

A search was conducted but no body was found and everyone was held accountable, at least on the cruise ship.

But it wasn’t until some time later that police realized Levi’s passport was found in the same area, the program said.

The incident was also reported in Spanish media, according to which workers on the cruise ship had alerted authorities that someone was at sea

But the search was soon called off because none of the passengers were missing.

Levi traveled to Barcelona alone after spending a week in Ibiza and arrived in the city around 7pm.

The rugby player-turned-reality star appeared on X Factor: Celebrity in 2019 with fellow rugby players Ben Foden and Thom Evans as part of the group Try Star.
