‘Worst penalty ever’ – Chelsea fans shocked after Jorginho’s horror penalty threatened to throw West Ham’s win away

JORGINHO was flushed by Christian Pulisic after the Chelsea midfielder missed a horrible late penalty in their 1-0 win over West Ham.

The Blues scored a dramatic injury-time winner at Stamford Bridge to extend their lead over fourth-placed Arsenal to five points.

It was a nervous end to the game for the hosts, who once again underperformed in front of their home fans.

And in the 87th minute, the Blues were handed the game on a plate when Hammers centre-back Craig Dawson was sent off for tripping Romelu Lukaku in the box.

Upstairs came Jorginho, who was looking to score his tenth goal of the season, with all nine of his previous goals this season coming from the penalty spot.

Just like Bruno Fernandes against Arsenal on Saturday, the Italian made his usual hop, hop and jump run, with Lukasz Fabianski easily parrying his tame effort.

The 30-year-old, whose penalty was saved by Jordan Pickford in the last Euro 2020 shootout, has missed two penalties on the international stage this season.

He was thwarted by Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer in Italy’s World Cup qualifier in September.

Jorginho then shot over the bar from 12 meters in their next meeting in December, which saw Italy miss out on automatic World Cup qualification.

After Italy’s play-off defeat by North Macedonia, Jorginho said those missed penalties would haunt him for the rest of his life.

And after his last missed penalty, Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness beat his attempt from the spot.

He said: “It’s pathetic. It bounces before it reaches the goalkeeper. I mean, that’s an example of not taking a penalty. There’s no conviction.

“I just pass it into the net, in the middle of the goal. It’s easy for the goalkeeper to save it. Weak penalty.

“That would bounce twice before reaching the goalkeeper.”

Fans were also quick to slam the ex-Napoli ace on social media, with one tweeting: “Think this might be the worst punishment I’ve ever seen.”

Another commented: “Remember when Jorginho was the best penalty taker in the world?”

A third added: “Jorginho’s punishment was one of the harshest that has ever inflicted upon our eyes.”

Meanwhile, it was simply stated: “Jorginho should never be allowed to take a penalty again.”
