RALF RANGNICK was briefly called ‘the worst caretaker manager in Premier League history’ – before Manchester United hit form and scored in the second half at Brentford.
Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood and sub-Marcus Rashford gave the Reds a 3-0 lead after a lousy opening.
But some armchair critics have condemned Rangnick’s brief reign.
One said: “There is absolutely no way that Rangnick has made United any better.”
Another stated: “Oops, he doesn’t have a new manager bounce. Rangnick is the worst temp I’ve seen in PL.”
And a third argued similarly: “Rangnick is possibly the worst caretaker manager in PL history. It’s amazing.”
Several social media posts were hastily deleted as United showed far more passion and cohesion after the break.
But one person insisted: “If you put Rangnick in charge of Brighton and Potter in charge of United… Brighton will go down. United will challenge for the title. I really believe that.”
However, midfielder Fred – mocked for his back-kick early in the first half – scored Elanga’s superb opening goal in the 54th minute.
And eight minutes later, a calm team goal cemented United’s improvement and doubled the lead.
Scott McTominay won the ball and provided the assist for Cristiano Ronaldo, who picked up the ball for Bruno Fernandes to let Elanga finish in style.
Rashford then scored United’s third goal, again McTominay starting it with a vital intercept.
