And the staggering sum is the highest ever paid for an American sports franchise.

It beats the $3.2 billion the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets sold for three years ago — and is more than double the $2.28 billion the NFL’s Carolina Panthers sold for in 2018 have tasted.

The Broncos are being brought by the Pat Bowlen Trust after the owner died in 2019 at the age of 75.

The franchise was valued at $3.75 billion by Forbes last year — the 10th highest NFL franchise valuation.

But the nearly $1 billion higher retail price catapults them into the top 10 sports teams in the world.

The Dallas Cowboys top the Forbes list with $5.7 billion, with the New York Yankees second at $5.25 billion.

The New York Knicks are third at $5 billion, ahead of Spanish soccer giants Barcelona at $4.76 billion and Real Madrid at $4.75 billion.

The Golden State Warriors are next valued at $4.7 billion, with the Denver Broncos coming in at $4.65 billion.

The Los Angeles Lakers are the third basketball team on the list, valued at $4.6 billion.

The New England Patriots ($4.4 billion) and the New York Giants ($4.3 billion) complete the top ten on the Forbes list.

The Forbes list has not yet been updated for 2022, so these values could change.
