Perhaps unsurprisingly given how well their young side have fared, France are favorites at bookmaker Betfair.

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, England are a SHORTER prize than current holders Argentina to end 60 years of pain.

The French did everything they could to secure a remarkable back-to-back win but it was not to be as they lost on penalties.

Next time out are all-time all-time leading scorer Olivier Giroud, who turns 39, and Karim Benzema, who has announced his retirement from international football.

But their forward line has been full of youngsters who will be looking to reclaim the top honor in the world and they are 5/1 with Betfair to do so.

Brazil were the pre-tournament favorites in Qatar, narrowing significantly throughout the tournament before being eliminated in the quarterfinals.

They are on 2.11. just behind France to make amends in North America.

Then there’s England (7/1), who also went to Qatar with a young team and will hope for a better performance next time.

Gareth Southgate announced he will stay until the end of the Euro 2024 campaign, although it’s likely that someone else will be in the hotseat when that tournament comes around.

Current defending champions Argentina are rated at 9/1 along with Qatar flops Germany and Spain.

It doesn’t seem likely that Lionel Messi will return to lead the South Americans but stranger things have happened.

Germany are in need of a complete overhaul after back-to-back group stage defeats, while Spain have four years to find a centre-forward to complement a young, talented midfield.

Betfair spokesman Sam Rosbottom said: “Argentina are 9/1 to successfully defend their World Cup crown at the 2026 tournament, while 2022 finalists France are leading at 5/1, with England 7/1.”
