Women’s soccer league commissioner resigns following abuse allegations

Nationwide Ladies’s Soccer League (NWSL) Commissioner Lisa Baird resigned on Friday following allegations of abuse levied in opposition to league coaches.

“The Nationwide Ladies’s Soccer league on Friday has obtained and accepted Lisa Baird’s resignation as its commissioner,” the league stated in a press release posted to Twitter.

The resignation is the most recent twist within the scandal surrounding sexual harassment inside the league. 

The Athletic reported this week that North Carolina Braveness coach Paul Riley has sexually coerced gamers since 2010. He is beeb accused of asking two gamers to kiss in entrance of him in order that gamers didn’t need to do a rigorous exercise and sending unsolicited sexual messages. 

In response to the allegations, Riley advised The Athletic “I’ve by no means had intercourse with, or made sexual advances in direction of these gamers.”

In a press release issued Friday morning, Baird said that “enterprise as normal” was not vital to the league in mild of the firings.
