The brutal attack came when a dog on a leash suddenly jumped up and mauled the 40-year-old victim as she leaned against a wall in Blackpool.

The woman was taken to the hospital with serious facial injuries and required 70 stitches.

After a lengthy three-month investigation, Lancashire Police on Monday released video surveillance of the man under investigation.

Footage shows the likeness of a man in dark clothing walking a powerful brown dog on a chain on the day of the attack.

They’ve called on anyone who can identify him or have any information about the attack to come forward as soon as possible.

A spokesman for the force said: “We are asking for information to identify this man following a serious dog attack in Blackpool.

“At around 11pm on November 1, the victim, a woman in her 40s, stood outside an address on Lord Street.

“The woman was leaning over a wall as a man with a dog walked by on a chain. The dog jumped up and bit the woman’s face, causing serious injuries.

“She was taken to the hospital and required more than 70 stitches to treat her injuries. The man walked away from the crime scene towards Queen Street.

“He is described as being in his 30s and wearing black. The dog is described as a tan or brown dog on a large chain.”

They asked the public to “call 101 or email 8242@lancashire.police.uk and quote transcript 0061 of 2 November”.

The news comes as Natasha Johnston has been named as a victim of the January 12 dog attack in Surrey.

The 28-year-old was walking eight dogs in leafy Caterham when they reportedly turned on her like “wolves” and beat her to death.

The attack sparked fear in those around and widespread tributes to Johnston poured in.

Police have since announced that no one will be prosecuted in the fatal incident.

The inquest into her death will take place tomorrow (January 31).
