Woman attacked by BOAR on Costa del Sol beach as animal scares sunbathers away

A BOAR sent sunbathers panicking on a Costa del Sol beach before attacking a woman.

The disoriented animal fell out of the sea while holidaymakers looked on in horror before chasing after the pensioner.

The emergency services were alerted to the incident shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday morning.

Stunned lifeguards on El Albir beach, north of Benidorm, quickly sounded the alarm when the animal began running wild.

It had been spotted in the water by boat crews who alerted attendants on the sand as it neared the shores.

They had been unable to catch the slippery boar in the sea and tried to warn sunbathers to stay out of the way.

The animal is believed to have come from the nearby Serra Gelada Natural Park.

It consists of over 5,000 hectares of protected coastline in the municipalities of Benidorm, Alfaz del Pi and Altea.

How the wild boar got into the sea is unclear.

Terrifying footage of the surreal incident showed locals and tourists screaming and ducking for cover as the boar ran over their towels.

It then made a beeline for the 67-year-old woman and bit her in the leg after colliding with her during the morning’s chaos.

Her “small” injury was cleaned as a precaution and is believed to have been told to take antibiotics to prevent infection.

The woman, whose nationality is not yet known, was treated at a local health center.

Lifeguards managed to chase the boar off the beach – but it headed towards a row of crowded seaside bars and cafes.

His current whereabouts are unknown.

Wild boar are increasingly coming to cities to forage, with numbers increasing during the coronavirus pandemic.

The chaos on the beach comes just days after it was revealed that locals in Denia were using archers to protect tourists from the animals roaming the streets.

Officials at the resort town, about 40 minutes’ drive north, had previously placed cage traps at strategic points in the community.

They want to reduce the growing number of wild boar leaving their natural habitat on the land to search for food.

The cages were equipped with cameras so that city officials could count the number of wild boar caught and prevent accidents with people being accidentally trapped.

But the system gave poor results – leading to them bringing in experienced archers to help fend off wild boar.

Colombian pop star Shakira revealed last September that she was “attacked” by two wild boars who tried to “rob” her while she was in a Barcelona park with her nine-year-old son Milan.
