Will there be a 3rd World War?

As tensions between Russia and the West continue to rise, many fear the crisis in Ukraine could escalate into a larger armed conflict.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched an attack on Ukraine in the early hours of February 24, 2022.

Officials have since warned that the escalation of the crisis could lead to the bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War II, resulting in thousands of civilian deaths and triggering a significant refugee crisis in Europe.

The exact death toll is unknown, although it is estimated that as of June 2022 Russia lost nearly 50,000 fighters.

As Putin’s health deteriorates, there are fears he may turn to nuclear weapons in desperation.

The use of nuclear weapons would change the way Ukrainian allies view the situation.

With Ukraine not a NATO member but Britain, the US and its allies are aiding the nation without declaring war on Russia.

However, if Russia attacks NATO allies, action would be expected.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that “World War III” could erupt if Russia escalated its attack further.

There are also fears that the conflict could exacerbate the global food crisis, although both sides have signed an agreement to resume grain exports.

Did Russia attack Poland?

In November 2022, WW3 tensions increased after reports that Russian missiles had crossed through Poland, a NATO country.

Now NATO allies are investigating the blast that killed two people near the Ukrainian border to find out what caused the blast.

Russia’s defense ministry denied reports that missiles had landed in Poland, according to Reuters, but if the investigation found that they had, it could result in a retaliatory strike from NATO.

“This is a very serious incident, but much remains unclear,” said Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt.

Meanwhile, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev warned that the missile attack was a sign that the West was heading towards another world war.

He said: “The incident of Ukraine’s alleged ‘missile attack’ on a Polish farm proves only one thing: the West is moving closer to a world war with a hybrid war against Russia.”
