WILL Smith faces Bad Boys 4 batting after beating Chris Rock at the Oscars.
The new film would be released almost three decades after the original, which marked the start of Will’s biggest franchise in 1995.
A production schedule was set after Chris Bremner wrote a promising 40-page script.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Bad Boys 4 has been shelved while the 53-year-old actor is appealing to the Academy to keep his first-ever Oscar for his role in King Richard.
Will’s other upcoming project was the Netflix film Fast and Loose, which THR claims is “on hold.”
Bad Boys for Life, the third in the franchise, was released in January 2020 and was a huge box office hit, grossing $426 million worldwide.
It grossed more at the box office than Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2 combined, making a fourth film an obvious way forward.
Will said he “betrayed the Academy’s trust” by resigning from the organization following his “shocking, painful and inexcusable” actions a week ago today.
Will has anchored other lucrative film franchises like Independence Day and Men in Black.
His films, both real and animated, have grossed more than $9 billion worldwide, according to box office researcher Comscore.
