WILL Smith raised his hand and threatened a host to “be careful what you say to my wife” in a resurfaced video years before the Oscar swatter.
The 53-year-old actor recently made headlines for slapping Oscar presenter Chris Rock, 57, after he joked with his wife on Sunday night.
Back in 2010, Will proved he was ready to defend his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, 50, at any time.
When the couple appeared on Spanish talk show El Hormiguero with their children Jaden, 23, and Willow, 21, over a decade ago, the Oscar-winner clapped back at host Pablo Motos.
In the resurfaced clip, Pablo wanted to congratulate Jada on her beauty and professional success after giving Jaden advice on how to make it in the film business.
However, the host only got as far as saying Jada’s name before Will raised his right hand and barked in Spanish, “Pablo, be careful with the words you use for my wife, okay!”
He then gestured for Pablo to start talking while craning his neck forward to show him that he was listening very carefully to what the host was saying about Jada.
After saying he wasn’t surprised by Jada’s success in Hollywood, the Spanish star added that she was beautiful “outside and inside”.
Will appeared pleased with the comments as he said, “Very good, very good.”
When Pablo started commenting on Jada’s performance, Will said, “Cuidado, cuidado,” which means “be careful” in English.
The moment ended with Pablo hugging Jada before high-fiving Will, proving the Bad Boys actor was just fooling around with his threats.
The Smith family’s appearance on the talk show resurfaced Twitter Just days after Will took the stage at the Oscars to slap Chris in the face.
The drama began when Chris poked fun at Jada’s bald head by joking that she should star in a GI Jane sequel.
While the joke drew a few laughs from the audience, Jada rolled her eyes before Will voiced his thoughts.
She’s been open about her hair loss due to her alopecia diagnosis.
Will quickly stormed onto the stage and slapped the presenter in the face, leaving the audience in shock.
After the confrontation, a stunned Chris said, “Will Smith just kicked the shit out of me.”
Returning to his seat, Will looked angry as he yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your damn mouth.”
Shortly after the incident, Will returned to the stage to accept the Best Actor award for his role in King Richard.
Addressing the controversial moment in his emotional speech, he said: “I want to apologize to the Academy, he said towards the end of his speech.”
He continued while holding back tears, “I want to apologize to all my fellow candidates.”
“Art mimics life, I look like the crazy dad just like what they said about Richard Williams.
“But love will make you do crazy things.”
Days after the ceremony, Will released an official statement apologizing to Chris.
In his Instagram post, Will called his behavior “unacceptable.”
He wrote: “Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at the Oscars last night was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s health was too much for me to take and I reacted emotionally.
“I want to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I’m embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.
“I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all contestants and all viewers around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams family and my King Richard family. I deeply regret that my conduct has tainted what has been an otherwise beautiful journey for all of us.
“I’m still in the works. Sincerely, Will.”
