Will Smith could still lose his Oscar after his reputation was ruined as he resigned from the Academy after being slapped by Chris Rock

WILL Smith could face more reprimands for beating Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars with the potential to lose his gong for best actor.
The newly crowned winner resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday amid possible expulsion or suspension over his outburst of violence last Sunday.

The slap, heard around the world, sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and embroiled 53-year-old Will in the biggest controversy of his career.
The academy board “is now moving forward with disciplinary proceedings” – in accordance with the revised rules following the #MeToo movement of 2017.
This could potentially mean Will could lose his gong for the film King Richard, with the rules providing sanctions: “May private reprimand, public reprimand, temporary or permanent loss of privilege to attend Academy events or activities, temporary or permanent loss.” of eligibility to receive or hold or revoke Academy awards or honors, temporary or permanent loss of eligibility to perform Academy services and volunteer services, or other sanctions as the Academy, in its sole discretion, deems appropriate.
Fans took to Twitter after the shocking debacle, with many claiming the Men In Black star should lose his award.

One wrote: “If #WillSmith had returned his #Oscar this morning he might have saved his career. There were only positive sides and after all, nobody will forget that they won one. He could lose him now anyway and he hasn’t done enough to make us love him again.”
Another added: “If it’s real Will should lose his Oscar, face charges and boot from the academy. #WillSmith,” while one dubbed his “reputation” as “ruined.”
One Oscar follower then continued, “Honestly, #WillSmith deserves to lose his Oscar for what he did to #ChrisRock in such an inappropriate and unprofessional way,” as another wrote, “Will Smith should lose his Oscar and be.” Donate the film fee to charity.”
But one took a contrasting stance, emphasizing, “If Roman Polanski and Harvey Weinstein could keep their Oscars and they did a lot worse than he did, then no Will Smith should lose his Oscars.” Not at all.”
Both Polanski and Weinstein were expelled from the academy but retained their awards.
The only time the Academy asked for an award refund was for the 1967 documentary Young Americans, which turned out to be too early for the 1969 Oscars.
‘PAINFUL’ TERMINATION
In a statement released on Friday, the movie star called his actions “shocking, painful and inexcusable” and said he will accept any additional consequences the Academy Board deems appropriate.
“The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, everyone present and the global audience back home.
“I betrayed the academy’s trust. I deprived other nominees and winners of the opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. My heart is broken.”
He continued in the emotional message, “I want to bring the focus back to those who deserve recognition for their accomplishments and allow the Academy to go back to the incredible work they do to support creativity and artistry in film.
“As such, I resign my membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and will accept any further consequences that the board deems appropriate.”
The actor concluded, “Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure I never again allow violence to overtake reason.”

Just minutes after Will released his statement, the Academy sent out a memo of its own to accept his formal resignation.
Will has previously apologized to Chris in an online statement, calling his actions “toxic and destructive”.
