Netflix’s latest release about another serial killer arrives today with The good nurse. The film, which received positive reviews, stars Oscar winners Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne as real-life characters Amy Loughren and Charles Cullen, respectively. If you’re looking for a chilling thriller in time for spooky season, we recommend checking this out. The story is scary as it is based on true events and the acting is great.
The new film follows the story of a nurse and single mother, Amy (Chastain), who lives in New Jersey. She works the night shift in the infirmary at Parkfield Memorial Hospital and unfortunately is silently suffering from cardiomyopathy. Despite her doctor’s urging to take a medical leave from work, she has no insurance, leaving her no choice but to move on. When a new nurse starts working next to her at night, she feels warmed by the support and kind words of her husband, Charles (Redmayne). Little does she know that he has a criminal background and has no plans to stop.

Amy is shocked to see patients on the rise suddenly dying in the hospital, and it turns out Charles is the culprit. It was discovered that he intentionally injected IV bags with insulin, which turns out to be fatal.
This revelation shocks Amy as many people have died not only because of Charles but also because she let him into her life and into the lives of her children. The two nurses become very close after Charles starts working at Parkfield, making the situation even more hurtful. Amy ends up working with detectives to bring him down.
Will Charles Cullen get caught in The Good Nurse?
Just like in real life, Charles gets drawn into it The good nurse. At the end of the film, Amy is able to extract a confession from the serial killer after the detectives fail. She comes into the interrogation room where he is being held and forces him to talk. He begins listing the names of the patients he has killed at Parkfield and previous hospitals. When Amy asks him why he did that, his response is simple, “You didn’t stop me.”
Before the credits roll, we see text on the screen that explains what happened next to the real Charles. In the end, he confessed to the murder of 29 people, although it is believed that the number is closer to 400. He is currently serving multiple life sentences at the New Jersey State Penitentiary in Trenton.
We also get a brief scene of Amy and one of her daughters snuggling into the bed to sleep together. The text on the screen reappears informing us that Amy has had heart surgery and is now living in Florida with her family, still a practicing nurse.
