An ANGRY wife has gotten revenge on her husband after he hid his £1million lottery win from her and even bought his ex-partner a house.
The mysterious man, known as Zhou, won the lottery two years ago but is now facing charges of embezzlement, a Chinese court has heard.
In 2021, the man from Zhejiang, east China, snagged the massive pre-tax haul of ten million yuan (£1.2million) but didn’t let his wife know.
Eventually his hidden financial web unraveled and now he has to pay his wife compensation.
According to Hangzhou Daily, he sent £242,000 of the winnings to his sister and another £85,000 to his ex-wife to help her buy an apartment.
When his wife Lin discovered his shameful deed, she filed for divorce.
She also asked the court for a fair division of the couple’s assets.
She also demanded about 65 percent of the money he was hiding from her.
The money sent to Zhou’s ex-wife and sister was deemed embezzlement and their application was upheld by the court.
According to the report, no party has appealed the court ruling.
National lottery winnings are taxed in China to raise money for community and charitable programs.
Because of this, people have tried to hide their lump sums.
A man wore a strange mascot costume to collect his prize last year.
He told local media he donned the outfit to hide his appearance from his family.
He said at the time: “I’m really happy to have won but I don’t want my family to know about it as they might get too arrogant and complacent in the future.”
Selfish lottery winners are trending online.
