On the topic of wearing the suit for the first time, Holland began by saying it was “an exciting occasion.” He explained that the first time he portrayed the character was in Atlanta filming “Captain America: Civil War,” and that his first shot was a fight scene with Captain America. He later revealed that his stunt double, who had a much different look than Holland, had been filming for weeks before Holland was even cast. When Holland started filming, they decided to sew a double suit for the Netherlands instead of making a new one from scratch (as the process can take up to “14 weeks”) – and the results are hilarious.
Holland continued, “Now, [the stunt double] Marvin is like 6’1, he’s big, and I’m not 6’1 and not very big. So when I went into the room, I saw the suit hanging there on the hanger. I asked them if they could close all the mirrors, so that when I put it on, I could see it for the first time. [in full] when it’s turned on… And when they open [mirrors], it looks like a scrotum. “Holland goes on to explain why the garment fits such a vivid description, saying it is” because it wasn’t tight at all, it was just loose and rough. “
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon couldn’t help but laugh at the comparison. Holland ended his anecdote by calling the first suit “very disappointing,” before positively declaring, “But you know, now I have many of my own that match perfect.” Thankfully, the Netherlands will likely never have to go through that experience again.
