Who is Rich Boy?

Maurice Richards, known professionally as Rich Boy, is a rapper from Mobile, Alabama.

His 2006 song Throw Some D’s jumped to number 6 on the Billboard Top 100, making Richards one of only a handful of Mobile rappers to make the Top 10.

A year later, his song reached #3 on Billboard 2000 and topped the US rap chart.

After the song’s success, Richards took a backseat, with some calling it a one-hit wonder.

But in 2008 he dropped his album Bigger Than the Mayor, upping the ante and bringing it back into the public eye.

Reviewing the album in 2008, XXL Magazine said, “With introspective street rap sprinkled throughout the CD, Rich Boy manages to please his core fandom as well as the casual listeners who have written it off as a one-hit wonder to deliver.”

The review continues, “Up until its second LP, Bigger Than the Mayor serves as a neat holdover, presenting an effective street campaign for the Bama boy to serve another term.”

Richards released his final album Bring It to The Block in 2022, which features freestyle tracks and guest appearances from Lloyd Banks, Bubba Sparxxx, Pastor Troy and Boyz N Da Hood.

Why was Rich Boy arrested?

According to police reports, Richards was arrested on Oct. 3 on third-degree domestic violence charges, including domestic violence, molestation and assault.

NBC15 reported that police were called after Richards allegedly got into a physical altercation with his parents.

It is the second time charges have been brought against the rapper, who was arrested in 2008 for attempted assault.

He received the civil suit from an accountant who was injured by ricocheting shrapnel from Richards and his brother Irvin’s Cadillac in 2005.

Both Richards and his brother pleaded guilty to attempted assault and he was granted parole, while Irvin was sentenced to ten years in prison.

The civil action followed the accountant’s original lawsuit, which sought punitive damages.

Richards and Irvin received a judgment ordering them to pay $25,000 in compensatory damages and $312,500 in punitive damages.
