ARGENTINA is one of the favorites for the 2022 World Cup but will go into the tournament without one of their past stars, Sergio Aguero.
The Manchester City legend had become a regular in Argentina’s side after breaking through in Europe and became an elite goalscorer at Atletico Madrid.
However, for the first time since 2006, they will be without the former national team striker at a World Cup when they meet France in a thrilling final.
We have all the information on the reason why the striker is absent from the World Cup.
Why doesn’t Sergio Aguero play for Argentina?
Aguero was included in the World Cup 2010 squad and made his debut in the competition against South Korea on Matchday 2.
Since then, the forward has been a key player in his national team and forged a strong bond with fellow forward Lionel Messi.
However, in what may be Messi’s last World Cup, he will play without any of his closest friends.
Aguero joined Barcelona in 2021 hoping to play with Messi at club level only for the Argentine to leave the Camp Nou himself.
Looking to prove himself on his La Liga return despite Messi’s departure, Aguero recorded a 2-1 defeat in his first El Clasico.

On December 15, 2021, Aguero announced his retirement from football after seeking medical advice, meaning he would miss the 2022 World Cup.
Nonetheless, he will be supporting his former teammates and friends from the sidelines as Argentina seek glory in Qatar.
