Morocco are making only their second World Cup appearance since 1998, beginning their journey in Qatar against Croatia.
The North Africans have one of the most exciting teams in their history and easily qualified for the tournament.
But eagle-eyed fans have spotted something odd in their acronym.
Why is the Moroccan abbreviation MAR?
You may have noticed during the tournament that the Moroccan abbreviation is MAR, not MOR as you might expect.
This is due to the large French influence in the country, while the country’s official languages are Arabic and Berber.
The French word for Morocco is Maroc – and the abbreviation MAR is therefore used for sporting events and as an official country code.
