Why is the Brazilian national anthem being shortened?

The melody for the national anthem was composed by Francisco Manuel da Silva and presented to the public in 1831.

The date it was presented was April 13, 1831 and it is now known in the country as “Brazilian National Anthem Day”.

It had received at least two unofficial texts before the official texts were written by Joaquim Osório Duque-Estrada in 1909.

Because of its length, it is often shortened to the first verse at sporting events.

What is it’s name?

Brazil’s first national anthem was called the Independence Anthem, but when Emperor Pedro I – also the song’s author – abdicated, it lost popularity.

It has no other name than the national anthem.

what are the lyrics

verse one

One of the tranquil banks of the Ipiranga
The resounding call of a heroic people
And the sun of freedom in radiant rays
At that moment it shone in the sky at home.
If the promise of this equality
We managed to conquer with a strong arm,
In your bosom, O freedom,
Our chest defies death itself!
O beloved,
deified homeland,
hail, hail!
Brazil, an intense dream, a living ray
Of love and hope descends to earth
When in your beautiful, smiling and clear skies
The image of the (southern) cross blazes.
giant by your own nature,
You are beautiful, strong, a fearless colossus,
And your future reflects that greatness.
Dear country
Among a thousand others
are you brazil
O beloved homeland!
From the sons of this soil
you are kind mother
beloved homeland,
Brazil!

verse two

Eternally lying in a glorious cradle,
To the sound of the sea and under the deep light of the sky
You flash, Brazil, croquet of America,
Enlightened by the sun of the New World!

Than the brighter land
Your smile, pretty meadows and more flowers
“Our groves have more life”,
“Our life” in your bosom “loves more”.

O beloved,
deified homeland,
hail, hail!

Brazil, eternal love be a symbol
The starred labarum you show
And say the laurel green of this pennant
“Peace in the future and glory in the past.”

But if you raise the mighty mace of righteousness,
See to it that a son of yours does not flee the battle,
Even those who love you do not fear their own death.

Dear country
Among a thousand others
are you brazil
O beloved homeland!

From the sons of this soil
you are kind mother
beloved homeland,
Brazil!
