BLINK-182 is a popular rock band formed in Poway, California in 1992.
Tom DeLonge was one of the founding members of the band but eventually left in 2015.
Why did Tom DeLonge leave Blink-182?
DeLonge’s departure from Blink-182 made headlines in 2015, but it wasn’t until 2019 that the star spoke up.
At the time, he told To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science, a company he co-founded in 2015, that he left the band to help “change the world for my kids.”
“The last show I played was in front of 100,000 people,” he recalled in an interview.
“And then they wonder why I’m not doing this now, and I’m going to say, because this is the only moment in my life where I can look back as an old man and say, ‘Oh my god, that was me a part of the team that changed the world.”
He added that his goal of “changing the way of humanity” was another reason he decided to leave.
“I wanted to do a quick message to let you guys know that I wholeheartedly left my band and everything I was known for because this is the moment I want to make the world for my children and everyone else’s can change.” he said.
“I’d appreciate it if you consider doing that with us.”

DeLonge had previously left the band to form Angels & Airwaves in 2005 after the group went on an indefinite hiatus.
What did the band say about his departure?
While DeLonge’s reason for leaving fits in well with others, his band members were not happy with his behavior before leaving.
In a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker discussed the split with their “disrespectful and ungrateful” bandmate, revealing that he had pulled out of upcoming commitments, which included recording a new album.
“We booked January 5th to go to the studio. On December 30th we get an email from Tom’s manager saying he’s not interested in recording and that he wants to do his other non-musical stuff and that he’s out indefinitely,” Hoppus recalled at the time.
“There’s a flurry of emails going back and forth to clarify the recording and the show, and his manager is sending them [an e-mail] say back: ‘Tom. Is. Out of.’ Direct Quote. This is the exact same email we received in 2004 when Tom was previously on an indefinite hiatus.”
Barker added, “I think he’s just disappointed because Mark and I have finally been honest. We used to cover for him… It’s hard to cover for someone who’s disrespectful and ungrateful.
“You don’t even have the guts to call your bandmates and tell them you’re not going to record or do anything Blink-related. You let your manager do it. Everyone should know what’s going on with him, and it’s been years since that.”
Despite the bad blood between the former bandmates, DeLonge and Hoppus have been able to “completely mend” their friendship over the years.
“The way the universe works is weird because I reached out to Mark because I needed him to sign this piece of paper that was related to my divorce,” DeLonge said in a 2021 interview with Zane Lowe by Apple Music.
“It was only through that phone call that I found out he had cancer. And he told me on the phone.
He added: “We didn’t talk much at all, maybe once every few months, a bit of text here and there. But now we talk several times a day.
“We were able to completely repair that friendship and really go deep into who we are as people and what it’s all about.”
Is Tom DeLonge back in Blink-182?
With no bad blood between the former band members, fans are wondering if he will ever return.
In July 2022, that question made headlines again after DeLonge seemingly teased his return.
At the time, he posted a throwback picture of the boys with a link to the band’s official Instagram page.
He also updated his bio to include blink-182, according to Far Out Magazine, which seems to indicate he’s working with the band again.
However, it is currently unclear if he has officially rejoined the band.
