In March 2022, Camila cabello spoke with apple music‘s Zane Lowe on her past relationship with Shawn Mendes.

“As I get older, my priorities shift,” she says.

“And I feel like that was the case for both of us.”

Cabello continued, “We both started so young. It’s like we’re actually learning how to become healthy adults. My priorities have fluctuated and my focus has changed throughout my life.

“Those years we were together… even while I was writing [Familia] and even now, I think my focus is really on the question, ‘How can I be a versatile person?’”

On November 17, 2021, Mendes took office Instagram Informing fans about his relationship status.

“Hey guys, we have decided to end our romantic relationship, but our love for each other as people is stronger than ever,” Mendes wrote on Instagram Story to over 64 million followers.

“We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We appreciate your support from the start and will continue to do so in the future.”

Mendes and Cabello had regularly gushed over each other in interviews and on social media throughout their relationship.

Just three months into their romance, Cabello revealed they initially kept the relationship private “to protect them.”

How long have you been together?

Before their split, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello dated for two years.

They first met in 2014 when they supported Austin Mahone’s tour.

At the time, Cabello was a member of Fifth Harmony.

In June 2019, the former couple worked together on Señorita and fans were convinced they were a couple.

Almost a year later Mendes talked about his music in the trailer to the Netflix documentary Wonder and revealed that all of his songs are about her.

“My song comes on the radio or something, and I’m like, ‘It’s all about you. They’re all, they’ve always been about you,'” he says in the clip.

“She says, ‘What do you mean?’ Like, ‘They’re all about you. Like every song I’ve ever written.'”

Were they engaged?

In December 2020, the Life of The Party singer spoke up entertainment tonight and sparked engagement rumors, which told the media outlet he was considering asking Cabello for her hand in marriage.

He said at the time: “I think it’s always been like that for me, if I’m not ready to talk about these things then I kind of check and I don’t know, I really think if you know, you know.

“She’s been one of my best friends since I was about 15 years old. I don’t know, at the same time I know we’re very young, so I don’t want to jump insanely fast, but I think when you find your person, you feel and you know you’ve found your person.”

Despite beginning rumors, Mendes never popped the question.
