Why Chelsea missed out on Richarlison after last-second bid to sign the Everton star ahead of Tottenham’s £60m transfer

CHELSEA missed out on Tottenham newcomer Richarlison despite making a last-ditch bid.

Before joining Spurs, the Brazilian was on the Blues’ shortlist as a potential Romelu Lukaku replacement.

As Tottenham increased their interest this week, Chelsea made an attempt to overlook them.

According to Metro, increased interest from west Londoners prompted Spurs to up their offer.

The Lilywhites offered Everton £50m plus £10m in add-ons, with Blues owner Todd Boehly unwilling to match.

Earlier in the week, Chelsea thought they had beaten Arsenal in signing Leeds ace Raphinha.

However, Richarlison’s Brazilian team-mate is still awaiting a move to financially troubled Barcelona.

Chelsea will now fully focus on Manchester City ace Raheem Sterling.

The England star has one year left on his contract at Etihad and Blues bosses believe he is within reach this summer.

As for Spurs, Richarlison is their fourth summer signing after previous arrivals of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma.

Their spending won’t end there, with Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet and Middlesbrough wing-back Djed Spence next on their radar.

A loan deal for Lenglet is reportedly imminent, while Spurs are nearing an agreement for around £15m plus surcharges for Spence.

Richarlison could face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge very soon in his Spurs career.

Antonio Conte’s side travel to west London on August 13 in just their second game of the season.
