AFTER the Queen passed away on September 8, 2022, mourners are wondering how to pay their respects to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Queen’s funeral arrangements:
Who will attend the Queen’s funeral?
2,000 guests are expressly invited to attend the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey.
All senior members of the royal family are expected to attend her funeral.
Royals expected include the Queen’s four children, King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, as well as their grandchildren.
Several important world leaders are also expected to attend her funeral, however the full list has yet to be announced.
The full list has not yet been confirmed, but we can expect New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Japan’s Emperor, France’s President Macron and members of Europe’s royal families to be in attendance.
Can members of the public attend the Queen’s funeral?
While the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey will be a closed affair, members of the public will still be able to attend the day.
The Queen’s coffin is kept at Westminster Hall, where the public can walk past her coffin until it is moved for her funeral.
When her coffin is transported from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey, there is a procession for mourners to attend.
This will be a full military parade with contributions from the Navy and RAF.
The parade ends at Hyde Park Corner.
Where is the Queen’s funeral held?
The Queen’s coffin will be lined up in Westminster Hall from Wednesday 14th September to Monday 19th September, where she will remain in state until her scheduled funeral.
On the morning of September 19, her coffin is transported from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey, where her state funeral will take place.
Later in the day, the Queen’s coffin is taken to St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle for a televised funeral service.
When is the Queen’s funeral?
The Queen’s funeral will be on Monday 19 September 2022.
The Queen’s state funeral is expected to take place at 11 a.m.
The day of her funeral has been declared a national holiday, when schools are closed.
According to the government, it will be at the “discretion of individual shops” whether to remain open as usual, open with reduced hours or close altogether to show their respect.
