What is the State of the Union?

The State of the Union (SOTU) address is an annual address given by the President to Congress at the beginning of each year.

Things covered by SOTU include budget, economy, breaking news, annual agenda, achievements, proposed legislation and the President’s current priorities.

The United States Constitution states in a clause that the President “shall supply information to Congress as to the state of the Union and recommend to its consideration such action as he thinks necessary and expedient”.

Who will attend the 2023 State of the Union address?

Each member of Congress is allocated one guest for the annual SOTU, while the President may invite up to 24 guests to sit with the First Lady or First Gentleman in his box.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives can also invite up to 24 guests to his box.

Members of the Cabinet, Supreme Court Justices, the Diplomatic Corps and the military leaders who make up the Joint Chiefs of Staff have reserved seats.

When is the 2023 State of the Union address?

Americans can tune in to Biden’s State of the Union address on February 7, 2023.

The speech is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET.

Biden’s SOTU will be available on local CBS, NBC, ABC and PBS channels; as well as on Fox News, Fox Business Network, CNN, MSNBC, NPR and C-SPAN.
