In a news conference, Abbott said the shooter “horrifically and incomprehensibly shot dead 14 students and killed a teacher,” adding he had access to a handgun and possibly a rifle.

“When parents take their children to school, they have the full expectation of knowing that they can pick up their child at the end of the school day. And there are families who are grieving right now,” Abbott added. via ABC News.

“The state of Texas joins you in mourning the fact that these parents are unable to pick up their children.”

The shooting is reportedly the deadliest school shooting in Texas history and came four years after a gunman fatally shot 10 people at Santa Fe High School in the Houston area, according to 9News.

The shooting also came just days after 10 people were killed in a mass shooting at a Tops Friendly Markets store in Buffalo, New York.
