Who was Samantha Miller?

North Carolina native Samantha Miller tied the knot with Aric Hutchison at a beautiful reception in Folly Beach, South Carolina on April 28, 2023.

But horror spread when the young bride was killed after Jamie Lee Komoroski, accused of driving more than twice the speed limit, crashed into a golf cart carrying her and Aric from their wedding reception.

The golf cart – decorated with a “Just Married” sign – was thrown 100 yards and overturned several times.

Photos from the scene showed the extent of the damage, showing the golf cart “tattered” while the Toyota’s hood was also crumpled from the impact.

The fatal accident left Hutchinson with a brain injury and multiple broken bones, requiring him to undergo reconstructive surgery.

Two other people were also in the golf cart with the couple but miraculously survived.

Benjamin Garrett and his nephew Brogan Garrett of Morgan, Utah, had been with Aric and Sam and were both injured in the collision.

Brogan has since been released from the hospital.

Aric’s mother previously shared the bride’s heartbreaking final words with her husband before the accident.

“She looked at him on a golf cart and said, ‘I want this day, this evening to last forever,'” the mother said.

Who is Jamie Lee Komoroski?

Police in South Carolina said 25-year-old Jamie Lee Komoroski was behind the wheel of the vehicle that collided with the golf cart.

Data from her engine obtained by police showed she was driving at 65 mph in a 25 mph zone – and hit the brakes shortly before the fatal crash.

She had allegedly been drinking heavily throughout the day and had consumed a mixture of beer, tequila and several other spirits.

When police tested her blood alcohol level, authorities said it was more than three times the legal limit.

It was also reported that the 25-year-old was “uncooperative” at the scene and refused field sobriety tests.

Komoroski was charged with one count of drunk driving resulting in death, two counts of drunk driving causing serious bodily injury and one count of involuntary manslaughter.

She was arraigned Wednesday, nearly five months after the tragedy.

This came as the 25-year-old was pictured sobbing in her striped prison jumpsuit last month after a judge refused her bail, describing her as a flight risk.

Meanwhile, during a prison visit in May, Komoroski was heard complaining to her parents that “her whole life is going to be over” and asking why “this happened to me.”

In response, her father told her to “hang in there” and “get tough.”

The defendant responded that she couldn’t wait for this to be over.

How did Samantha Miller die?

Samantha died at the scene of the accident as a result of blunt force injuries.

Her mother Lisa has since spoken out about the tragedy that tore her life apart.

In a heartbreaking statement, she said Komoroski had “killed” her entire family.

The devastated mother added: “Three months is nothing. I mean, it seems like it was yesterday.”

“Why would she go out and just have fun, you know?”

Aric’s mother, Annette Hutchison, started a GoFundMe page for the couple and raised $632,458.

She wrote, “Aric lost the love of his life when my new daughter-in-law, Samantha ‘Sam’ Hutchinson, was tragically killed by a drunk driver while leaving her wedding reception on April 28th in Folly Beach, South Carolina.”

The young groom suffered multiple broken bones and a brain injury and had to undergo reconstructive surgery.

She said: “Aric is in a serious condition and has had one of two reconstructive operations, numerous broken bones and a brain injury. It will take a long time for him to recover.”

She wrote on the GoFundMe page: “I was given Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital five hours after Sam put it on his finger and they read their vows to each other.”

“Aric has lost the love of his life.

“The couple has settled in both their home state of Utah and the state of South Carolina. The bride is from North Carolina.”

“The groom graduated from Bonneville High School in South Ogden, Utah and played college football for Snow College and Utah Tech.”

According to court documents, Aric is now filing a wrongful death lawsuit Queen City News.
