MASON Peter Thurgood was found dead with gunshot wounds to the head near his lover Lindy Benstead.
The couple were killed in what became known as the Lovers’ Lane murder in 1986, but the identity of Peter Thurgood’s killer is still a mystery.
Who was Peter Thurgood?
Peter Thurgood, 47, was a divorced father of two who worked as a bricklayer.
He was shot dead in April 1986 while traveling with married mother-of-three Lindy Benstead, 49.
Peter and Lindy were found on April 22, 1986 just off the A3 at Rake. Hampshire.
The pair, dubbed the Lovers’ Lane murders, were killed with a shotgun at point-blank range.
What happened to Peter Thurgood?
On the morning of April 22, 1986, Peter Thurgood rented a silver Mazda and drove to Old Thorns Golf Club in Liphook.
Here he collected Lindy Benstead, who worked as a cleaner for the club.
They entered an open area just off the A3, now B2070, north of Petersfield, East Hampshire.
The lovers’ bodies were found when Peter was slumped by the car, with gunshot wounds to his head and chest.
Lindy was found lying on the ground nearby.

Has Peter Thurgood’s killer been found?
Peter and Lindy were having an affair that was known locally, but police have been unable to determine if their deaths are related.
No one has ever been charged over her death.
Lindy’s husband Mick was questioned but had a clear alibi.
The investigation even went to America for answers when a witness came forward in 2018 who said he knew the killer but there was no corroborating evidence.
Police released drone footage hoping to bring up new witnesses and evidence.
Sussex Police Detective Superintendent Emma Heater said: “At the time of these tragic killings and since, numerous people have been named as allegedly involved and two arrests have been made.
“All of these leads have been thoroughly investigated but have not led to any further developments or arrests.
“Forensic investigations remain ongoing and additional items are being investigated using techniques developed since 1986.
“We are staying in touch with both families and they will be kept informed of any important developments.
“While there have been no other developments, in all of these cases we are always pursuing new information or forensic opportunities whenever they arise.”
The families of the victims asked for evidence.
