KONERAK SINTHASOMPHONE was one of the victims of Milwaukee cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer, who is the focus of Netflix’s latest documentary.
American serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer committed crimes including raping, murdering and dismembering over a dozen men and boys between 1978 and 1991, including Konerak Sinthasomphone.
Who was Konerak Sinthasomphone?
Konerak Sinthasomphone was a 14-year-old boy growing up in Wisconsin.
He was born into a family that immigrated to the United States from Laos.
According to TheCinemaholic, Konerak’s family was facing quite a few financial challenges, so he and his brother Somsack both tried their best to help their family.
What happened to Konerak Sinthasomphone?
Konerak was brutally murdered on May 27, 1991 by Jeffrey Dahmer, a serial killer and repeat sex offender.
Dahmer had lured Konerak to his apartment for a few drinks by offering him money for photos.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the teenager was naked, injured, bleeding and heavily under the influence of drugs when he managed to escape from Dahmer’s apartment.
Netflix’s latest documentary, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, shows how the serial killer even went so far as to drill a hole in the victim’s skull, which he filled with hydrochloric acid.
After Konerak’s escape, Sandra Smith, Tina Spivey and Nicole Childress spotted the teenager and called the police.
John Balcerzak and Joseph Gabrish responded to the call but ultimately returned Konerak to Dahmer after being convinced he was his 19-year-old lover, according to court documents.
“At the time, with the information that we had — I think we did the right thing to date, the best we could,” Balcerzak said in an interview after Jeffrey’s arrest, per AP News.
Dahmer murdered Konerak an hour later.
Was Konerak’s brother Somsack also abused by Jeffrey Dahmer?
Incidentally, Dahmer met Konerak’s brother Somsack in September 1988.
Law enforcement officials found that Somsack was only 13 when he was similarly coaxed into taking nude photos at Dahmer’s apartment in exchange for money.
The teenager was reportedly drugged and sexually abused but managed to escape.
Dahmer was arrested on September 27, 1988, and pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault charges in January the following year.
According to TheCinemaholic, he was “sentenced in May of that year to one year in prison with time off work and five years probation.”
Dahmer was on probation for molesting Somsack when he murdered his brother.
Somsack currently resides in Wisconsin with his wife, reports TheCinemaholic.
