Haven Hughes graduated from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas in 2022, where she earned a BA in Mass Communications and Media Studies.
Before her death, she had worked for her university’s various media outlets, including as a newsreader for Henderson Television and as a writer for the school’s online newspaper, The Oracle.
Hughes has won numerous awards and grants for her burgeoning journalism talents, including an Award of Excellence for On-Air Personality.
She joined KARK 4, an NBC affiliate in Little Rock, in August 2022.

Hughes died on January 16, 2023 after a tragic traffic accident.
The 22-year-old was a passenger on a motorcycle on Monday night when the collision occurred.
According to KATV, Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is being investigated by the authorities.

On Jan. 17, KARK released a statement regarding Hughe’s death and remembered her as a “bright, shining light” on the newsroom.
“Recently she joined some of us to represent KARK 4 News at CARTI’s Tux n Trees event. She did so with grace, style and class and made us proud to see what an exceptional young woman she was on the editorial board and at social events.

“Her smile was radiant and was always supported by an energetic and positive outlook on life. She understood the responsibility of telling other people’s stories and was thrilled to be able to do so here in her home state, in her hometown and among family and friends.”
The news channel concluded, “Haven, we love you, we will miss you and we are all better off having known you.”
