Legendary R&B singer Jesse Powell has sadly passed away at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 51.
The singer’s sister confirmed his death on social media.

Jesse Powell was an R&B singer from Gary, Indiana, born September 12, 1971.
Powell released his self-titled debut album in March 1996 through Silas Records/MCA.
It contained the singles All I Need, Gloria and I Like It.
His signature song was You, a ballad that appeared on his second album, ‘About that.
They debuted at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of February 20, 1999, and eventually peaked at number 10 on the coveted singles chart, marking Powell’s first top 10 hit.
On Spotify, it gained nearly 13 million streams at the time of release.
It peaked at #2 on the US R&B chart.
Powell released two more albums, JP in 2001 and Jesse in 2003, which was his last album.
Jesse was the older brother of contemporary R&B singers Trina and Tamara.

Powell died at his home in Los Angeles on September 13, 2022, just one day after his 51st birthday.
Powell’s sister Tamara confirmed the news via Instagram to the fans he left behind.
His family said in a statement he “passed away peacefully.”

While another paid tribute as they posted online, “RIP Jesse Powell this man had a VOICE.”

The grieving sister continued in her post, “He died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles.
“The family requests privacy at this time as we mourn this tremendous loss and celebrate his eternal legacy.
“Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career.
“We want you all to know that you meant the world to him. – The Powell family.”
