In 2014, 20-year-old Hollie Gazzard was murdered while working at a hair salon in Gloucester.
The tragic story behind Hollie’s brutal murder is now explored in a new series of Netflix’s true-crime documentary, My Lover My Killer.
Who was Hollie Gazzard?
Hollie Gazzard, 20, was a hairstylist from Gloucester.
Speaking of his daughter, Hollie’s father Nick described her as “enthusiastic and bright”.
What happened to Hollie Gazzard?
In 2014, Hollie Gazzard was brutally murdered at work by her ex-boyfriend, Asher Maslin.
Maslin stabbed 20-year-old Hollie 14 times as she finished a haircut for her last client of the day.
The Gloucester hairstylist ended her relationship with Maslin on Valentine’s Day 2014 – just four days before her death.
After being told it was over, he got angry and yelled that she had a “cold heart”.
He then followed her to her car before stealing her bank card and withdrawing £300.
Unwilling to accept that their relationship was over, Maslin began bombarding Hollie and her family with abusive and threatening texts.
One message read: “Call me now or the bat will hit your dad on the head.”
Creepy CCTV footage aired in the documentary Stalked: Murder In Slow Motion shows Maslin selling his DVD player to raise money to buy the 12-inch kitchen knife used to attack Hollie.
Before her death, Hollie reported Maslin to police on February 16, but authorities were unable to locate him.
Her desperate plea to the police came after Maslin had become possessive and abusive and her parents became increasingly concerned for her well-being.
Once the young couple attended their mother Mandy’s birthday dinner.
There Maslin began drinking and showing his true colors.
Hollie’s father Nick recalls: “He abused Hollie. He humiliated her in front of everyone. He spoke to her like a piece of dirt.
“He was demanding, he snapped his fingers and said things about her. The way he treated her was like a child. He had no respect.”
Two days after Hollie contacted the police, her sister Chloe’s partner received a harrowing text message that read: “I warned you all.”
Minutes later, on February 18, Maslin walked into the salon where Hollie worked.
Salon boss Sian Pryszlak recalled the terrifying moment, saying: “I did a gentleman’s hair.
“I said hi and he said hi and I went to the back of the salon and held my phone up to Hollie to show her I was going to call the police and we both nodded to each other.
“I remember being quite nervous and worried about it. I heard quite a commotion and then people ran towards me and a customer said. ‘There’s a knife.’”
The frenzied attack lasted only two minutes.
Holly was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Who is Asher Maslin?
Asher Maslin is the man responsible for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hollie Gazzard.
Maslin met Hollie in 2013 at a bar where she was working part-time at the time.
According to Hollie’s father Nick, Maslin immediately “latched on to her” and pursued her out for a date until she eventually agreed.
After Hollie’s death, it was discovered that her killer had already been convicted of violence.
Her father Nick explained: “He has been arrested 23 times with increasing violence, with domestic violence, GBH. He was a serial killer.
“Hollie wouldn’t have wanted to be with someone who did this to other people.”
In July 2014, Asher Maslin was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 24 years of life imprisonment.
During his trial at Gloucester Crown Court, Nick said: “He showed no remorse, he was disrespectful to the judge.
“That really made me angry. I was seething inside.”
After Hollie’s death, her family established a trust in her memory.
The Hollie Gazzard Trust helps reduce domestic violence by creating and running domestic violence programs and promoting healthy relationships in schools and colleges.
