Who was David McCullough?
David McCullough was an author, storyteller, popular historian, and lecturer who was born on July 7, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Over the years he had written several books on history and received countless awards including two Pulitzer Prizes, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Book Award.
He was arguably best known for his presidential biographies of John Adams and Harry Truman.
Before writing books, McCullough earned a degree from Yale University and worked at Sports Illustrated.

McCullough’s death was first confirmed to the New York Times by his daughter, Dorie Lawson.
However, an exact cause has not been announced and details of his death are still unclear.
Shortly after the news broke, several people took to Twitter to offer their condolences.
One user wrote, “This one hurt… I loved hearing his narration of The Civil War, American Experience and each of his books.”

Was David McCullough married?
Just two months before McCullough’s death, his wife Rosalee died on June 9, 2022.
The two met in 1951 while visiting a friend in Pittsburgh and, according to her obituary, married in 1954.
“Rosalee was appreciated by those who knew her for her kindness, honesty, optimism, energy, humor, grace, strong and even-tempered spirit, and love of conversation,” her obituary reads.
“She was always productive, helpful to her extended family, she was practical, enjoyed a good party and she loved to dance. When asked, she always offered great perspective and wisdom. Her moral compass was relied upon. She was devoted to David. She was happiest when she was with friends and family.”
Throughout their marriage, the couple welcomed five children and later went on to be grandparents to 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
