A LOVE triangle turned deadly, leading to the headline-grabbing murder of Cari Farver.
Police investigated Cari’s mysterious disappearance for years before arresting and charging her killer, Shanna Golyar.
Who was Cari Farver?
Cari Farver was a resident of Omaha, Nebraska who was involved with a man named Dave Kroupa.
The two began dating after a chance encounter at an auto repair shop.
While opening up about their romance, Dave told ABC, “When we looked at each other, there was a little spark.”
“She shows me something in the vehicle and we stand there and are very close … and there was some tension.”
What happened to Cari Farver?
Around the same time, Dave was also dating another woman named Shanna Golyar.
He met Shanna six months earlier after connecting through an online dating app.
While dating both women, Cari was last seen on November 13, 2012.
She was missing for years because she witnessed her death at Shanna’s hands.
After Cari’s disappearance, Shanna repeatedly impersonated the deceased victim to throw authorities off her trail during the investigation.
During this time, the perpetrator posed as the victim on social media several times to post and send messages to loved ones.
In May 2013, Shanna shared a remarkably lengthy Facebook post about Cari’s profile.
Full of grammatical errors, the post on the missing woman’s page read, “I’ve answered enough questions to prove to everyone that I’m done.”
“You can either not believe that I’m your daughter, mother, sister and friend you’ve known all your life, or you can just leave me alone.”
The alarming post further added, “I left voluntarily and I’m sick of everyone making it difficult for me to do what I had to do.”
“I’m not missed, I just don’t want to come home now.”
“I’m a grown woman and if I feel like leaving my home, I have the right.”
While posing as Cari, Shanna even went so far as to mention her own son, saying in the same post, “I asked my son Max (Maxwell James) to come with me but you wouldn’t.”
“So when I’m ready to go home, I will. I’m sorry that I hurt everyone and just got up and left.”
Who Killed Cari Farver?
On December 22, 2016, Shanna Golyar was arrested by the Nebraska Police Department.
She was charged with the first-degree murder of Cari Farver and her trial began on May 10, 2017.
She was convicted of murder with an additional charge of arson and sentenced to life in prison.
Although the mystery of Cari’s perpetrator has been solved and put behind bars, the body of the deceased victim was never recovered and is still missing.
