Aneta Corsaut was born on November 3, 1933 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Jesse Harrison and Opal J. Corsaut. Her educational path took her to Northwestern University, where she initially studied acting.
She also received acting lessons from renowned acting coach Lee Strasberg. Although she eventually dropped out of her formal education to fully pursue her acting career, she continued to hone her skills by taking courses at UCLA.
Career
Aneta Louise Corsaut began her acting career in New York City in the mid-1950s. A pivotal moment in her career came in 1958 when she and Steve McQueen made their film debuts in the independent cult horror film The Blob.
During her television career, she portrayed Irma Howell on the CBS sitcom “Mrs. G. Goes to College” from 1961 to 1962. Corsaut’s most notable role came in 1963, when she first appeared on the long-running series “The Andy Griffith Show” as teacher Helen Crump, who later became the wife of the Mayberry Sheriff, in the first episode of Spin -offs “Mayberry RFD”
In 1965, she also took on the role of Kathy McLennan, the young widow of a rancher, in an episode titled “Paid in Full” of the syndicated Western anthology series Death Valley Days.
Corsaut’s television career continued to blossom when she played a recurring role on the series The Blue Knight (1975-1976) as a pawn shop owner and girlfriend of police officer Bumper Morgan. She also played Officer Pete Malloy’s girlfriend, Judy, in the series Adam-12.
Her versatility as an actress was demonstrated when she played head nurse Bradley in the 1980s sitcom House Calls and made several appearances in the series Matlock alongside star Andy Griffith.
Additionally, in 1977, Corsaut took on the role of nurse Jesse Brewer on the long-running ABC soap opera General Hospital when original cast member Emily McLaughlin was unable to work due to illness.
