Who was Amou Haji?
Amou Haji was an Iranian who didn’t shower because he believed it was the secret of his age.
He didn’t shower for more than 60 years at one point, and according to CBS News, fears that he would get sick were over.
He lived in isolation in the village of Dejgah in southern Iran’s Fars province.
According to Euro News, Haji “experienced some ’emotional setbacks’ in his youth”.

He reportedly survived on dead animals, particularly porcupine meat.
He also constantly smoked cigarettes, gifts from the villagers.
Instead of tobacco, he also smoked a pipe filled with dried animal feces.
When was the last time Amou Haji took a bath?
Haji’s last shower was just months before his death.
Villagers worried about him eventually gathered and persuaded him to bathe.
He was covered in soot and pus from not bathing, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported.
Not long after his first and last bath in decades, Haji died.
An official cause of death has not yet been determined at this time.

He reportedly had no known family members.

But the villagers of Dejgah rallied to help build his brick hut and they called him Uncle Haji.
“Uncle” is a term of endearment among Iranians for someone who is older.
