“Who the hell are you?”

Technical director and former MANCHESTER UNITED midfielder Darren Fletcher was embroiled in a dispute with an X-rated fan on Saturday.

The shock incident came as the Red Devils suffered another poor result at Old Trafford as they drew against Leicester City.

Supporter Jamie Caplan, 25, has given the Manchester Evening News his account of the incident.

He claims he cried out in anger on the United bench after Kelechi Iheanacho scored for the Foxes.

The fan states that he was angry at the players’ lack of effort, but insisted his words weren’t aimed specifically at Fletcher.

However, he claims the former Scotland international replied: “Who the hell are you?”

Caplan told the MEN: “He’s the one who took offense and turned around and asked me who the hell I was and to sit down.

“I went back to Fletcher at the time because I took it very personally.

“Then I got a bit angry, so he didn’t say much. And then Scott McTominay turned around.

“I couldn’t understand what he was saying because by that point I was already walking up the stairs.”

Midfielder McTominay started the game but was replaced by Marcus Rashford ten minutes into the second half just before Iheanacho opened the scoring.

On the incident with Fletcher, who previously worked as manager under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before being appointed United’s first-ever technical director in March 2021, Caplan added: “As a matchgoing fan, I’ve put a lot of money into the club, me go watch you a lot.

“‘Where’s the damn fight? You do not care.’ That’s pretty much what I said word for word.

“He (Fletcher) didn’t like it. But he can’t deny it, he was there. He knows the standards required to be at the highest level.

“He was in a dressing room with Roy Keane and if he turns to me and says ‘this is a good United side’ then he’s a liar and I don’t believe him.

“Just look at all the old pros, they’re all saying the same thing, it’s just not there, the lust. It’s not there.”

The report also adds that the club are “open to speaking to Jamie to smooth things over with the season ticket holder”.

Fletcher, 38, spent 20 years as a player at United after turning the academy into a first-team regular.

He helped them win the Premier League five times and celebrate the Champions League and Club World Cup before departing in 2015 to end his playing days at West Brom and Stoke City.

The result left United seventh in the Premier League standings, three points adrift of the top four. “Who the hell are you?”
