Who replaced Beanie Feldstein in Funny Girl?

Beanie Feldstein’s character Fanny Brice is replaced by Lea Michele, who starred in the TV series Glee.

Michele was eight when she got her first break on Broadway for the role of young Cosette in the acclaimed story Les Misérables.

She continued to appear in Fiddler on the Roof and Spring Awakening, but only became a household name in 2009 when she starred as Rachel Berry in Glee.

Michele, who is now moving to Funny Girl, has been announced to be Michele’s new take on Brice’s character while producers work to boost ticket sales following a drop in attendance.

Deadline reported that Funny Girl regularly raked in $1 million in weekly box office sales from its spring shows, but a lack of award nominations has resulted in a 25 percent drop as of July 3.

Michele appears to be meeting the needs of producers with 11 wins and 28 nominations for awards including the Golden Globe Awards, Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, People’s Choice Awards and Gold Derby Awards.

Has Lea Michele always wanted to be in Funny Girl?

Michele first opened up about wanting to be cast in a 2014 reprisal for Funny Girl, the play that launched Barbara Streisand’s career.

“Ryan [Murphy] has the rights [to the musical]and it’s something I think we both would really like to do,” Michele said in an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live.

She continued, “…We had some really exciting first meetings with a really fabulous director that we think would be really wonderful.”

When Feldstein was cast to play Fanny Brice in April 2022, Michele started trending on Twitter.

In an interview with Andy Cohen, Feldstein said she “didn’t get it”.

She continued and said: “[Michele] very cute wrote on my Instagram,” adding, “I don’t know the woman at all.”

Why did Beanie Feldstein leave Funny Girl?

Feldstein announced she was retiring from Funny Girl three months after taking the stage.

Producers said they were “taken aback” by their decision to post the news on Instagram that she was leaving the show on July 10.

A source told PageSix that producers planned to make an announcement on July 11, but were surprised Feldstein broke the news immediately.

“She’s clearly not backing down,” the source said.

In her post, Feldstein wrote, “Playing Fannie Brice on Broadway has been a lifelong dream of mine and to do so for the past few months has been a great pleasure and a true honor.”
