The latest Caped Crusader movie – with Robert Pattison in the title role – is hitting theaters, leaving some moviegoers wondering who is playing the famous Joker.

Batman’s nemesis and Gotham’s clown prince of crime, the Joker has always been an integral part of the Dark Knight’s on-screen history.

There have been a few legendary actors over the years who really brought the role to life, and often in different ways.

Who can forget Jack Nicholson’s Joker in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman?

The late Heath Ledger took the role in The Dark Knight to a whole new level and made the film his own.

Unfortunately, the actor died before he could accept an Oscar for the role, but was instead awarded a posthumous Best Supporting Actor award.

Jared Letos Joker then took on new roles again, appearing in Suicide Squad and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Then we had Joaquin Phoenixwho also won an Oscar for playing the title role in the 2019 film The Joker.

For the 2022 movie The Batmanthe role of the Joker is played by Barry Keoghan.

Who is Barry Keoghan?

Irish actor Barry is a rising star currently, known for playing the Druig in Marvel’s Eternals in 2022.

This role follows acclaimed performances in such dramas as The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dunkirk.

He has very high billing in the credits in The Batman, but you could easily watch the whole movie without realizing he’s even there.

The Joker’s name is not mentioned in the film.

However, there is no doubt that the Riddler’s cellmate is the Joker due to his smile, laugh, and menacing presence.

What happened in The Batman post-credits scene?

Barry’s Joker only appears in one scene, but it’s an important one that sets the stage for a sequel.

At the end of the film, while the credits are rolling, we see the incarcerated Riddler (Paul Dano) talking to another inmate at Arkham Asylum.

Officially dubbed the “Invisible Arkham Prisoner,” this mysterious figure is shrouded in shadow – but he’s clearly said to be the Joker.

He has severe scars on his face, alludes to clowns and bursts out in hysterical laughter.
