Who is Umar Nurmagomedov and is he related to Khabib?

UFC fighter Umar Nurmagomedov is back in action at UFC 272.

The Russian fights along on a packed card from Las Vegas Colby Covington takes on Jorge Masvidal in the main event.

Who is Umar Nurmagomedov?

The 26-year-old Russian is another talent from the Numagomedov family.

He is currently undefeated in Pro-MMA with an impressive 13-0 record.

Six of those wins were by submission and Umar is a wrestling champion.

He has won seven of his bouts via guillotine choke and hopes to repeat the trick against Brian Kelleher at UFC 272.

The fight is scheduled for the early prelim card in Paradise, which begins around 6:00 p.m. ET.

Umar is 5ft 7 tall and fights at a featherweight reach of 69 inches.

He was born in March 1996 and fights in Chelyabinsk, Russia.

His coach Javier Mendez explained: “[He’s got] great hitting and great kicking. that she [fans] can expect. It’s a whole different flavor. A completely different flair.

“You can expect to see everything from him. But one thing that will be different is – Khabib’s boxing has evolved pretty well.

“I mean, Khabib’s boxing has turned out pretty good. Umar’s kicking is phenomenal.

“He’s great on the ground, he’s good at boxing, but he’s a phenomenal kicker.”

The name of Numagomedov is well known in UFC circles.

And Umar wants to continue the family tradition of competing for championship belts.

He is the undefeated lightweight star’s first cousin Khabib.
